When you buy in weight, store in reels and consume in metres control is everything.
During a 3 month project we reviewed/revised the Goods In procedures, the IT Reporting format, the physical layout/locations and the weekly/year end stock check.
Result

Exceeding Expectations
In 2006/2007 we were given the tasks of filling a key role for one of the worlds leading beauty products brands. Not only was the whole assignment a success but there were several unexpected achievements
The Assignment
Due to an internal promotion we had to fill the Operations Manager role while a permanent replacement was found. The previous Manager had a great track record and was highly regarded by her colleagues. The company knew she would be a hard act to follow and that the workforce were both loyal and positive to her and the goals she set.
The Operation
Based at the company’s 260,000sq.ft. Flagship, Distribution Centre the operation worked to short lead times, serving a number of major retailers.
The Site had a strong focus on SHE, on Service and on Costs
The Issues
A complex and large product range made estimating the final Transport requirement extremely difficult. The increasing number of agency staff required a different approach to motivation.
The Solutions
By sliding the working day back 8 hours all orders would be completed in time to give precise Transport requirements to the Hauliers. Specific focus on agency performance levels to bring them in line with full time employees. Finally clear costs and service KPI’s for the Management team
The Results
Record throughput volumes , reduced costs/item and increased operational service levels. All against a backdrop of improving health and safety audits and double digit growth
